Cowboy Beans

Her Recipe...

1 lb Ground Beef

3 (28 oz) cans Baked Beans (2 cans will work if you don’t want to go crazy)

8 strips of Bacon

3/4-1 cup Brown Sugar (depending on how sweet you want it)

3/4 cup Ketchup

2 tablespoons Vinegar

2 teaspoons Mustard

1/2 medium onion chopped

She doesn't math well

Okay… so she has made this recipe MANY times. She took it from the link listed below but made a few changes.

However, these changes weren’t mathematically correct, & he finally called her out on it after she had made it MANY times for various gatherings.

Actuality vs reality

So this recipe ACTUALLY calls for ONE can of ONE type of Baked Beans AND ONE can of Kidney Beans. But she could not choose between ALL of the flavors of beans… soooo REALLY it’s more like goodbye Kidney Beans, & hello to not only one, not even two, but THREE different types of Baked Beans. That’s right. She uses Maple Cured Bacon, Barbecue,  & Brown Sugar Hickory.

She’s indecisive, what can she say?

Steps

1. Cook the chopped onion & ground beef in a pan on medium-high heat until both ingredients are done.

2. While that is cooking, cook your bacon. We (& by we, we mean he) usually throw the bacon in the oven at 450* until it’s ready (15-20 minutes). She always threw it in the microwave but has become a fan of the oven baking bacon. Simply place a cookie drying sheet on top of a cookie sheet with aluminum foil underneath to catch the grease. Works like a charm.

More steps

**Sidenote: add as much bacon as you want. & we recommend this Sugar Creek Thick Cut Hickory Smoked Bacon.

3. While steps 1-2 are working their magic, simply throw the rest of the ingredients into your crock pot.

4. Chop up your bacon when it’s at your crispy level of interest then throw it in along with your beef & onion mix.

5. This dish feeds a herd plus two & is perfect for a pot luck or a large family gathering. Hope you enjoy!

Warning: contains A LOT of beans. #enoughsaid
